The Art Camp & Outreach Coordinator (1 position) will gain meaningful, supervised summer work experience in running a children’s summer art camp and assisting with special events at a not-for-profit arts centre. The summer student will be responsible for camp planning, inventory, instruction and supervision of summer camps.

Responsibilities: 

Tasks and Responsibilities

 

Coordinate summer art camp and outdoor outreach art activities for a not-for-profit art gallery/studio and providing visual art programming providing services to children and youth ages 5-12 and families from the Niagara Region.
Assist with camp planning and registration prior to start of summer art camps in July & August.
Research and develop art educational programming proposals, lesson plans, materials lists, audio-visual support and visual examples of projects for art camp.
Responsible for set up of activities, teaching art and supervising children and youth during summer art camps and outreach art tent at special events.
Plan and teach art project during summer camp that give a voice the Niagara Region’s Black history in preparation for North Star Freedom Festival in the fall.
Research and deliver art activities in outreach art tent for children and youth at various special events.
Coordinate plans for our participation in North Star Freedom Festival (bi-national festival) with Bravo Niagara in Fall 2017.
Occasionally act as Gallery Attendant, responsible for overseeing gallery space and arts administration duties.
Knowledgeable about the services the Arts Centre offers the community and familiar with current and upcoming exhibition, programs and events.

Qualifications: 

Qualifications

Currently studying or equivalent experience in: Visual Arts/Fine Art/Art History or Early Childhood Education/Child & Youth Studies or Education

Strong understanding of visual arts and art history
Experience working with children and youth
Lesson planning, teaching and classroom management experience
Administrative experience is considered an asset
Excellent communication and customer service skills are required
First Aid/CPR training will be required
Vulnerable Sector Screening will be required
Canada Summer Jobs Student Eligibility: Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; a registered full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school full-time in the next academic year; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and, legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Base Salary: 
$14/hr.
Work Hours: 
30-35 hrs./week
