About Us: French Elite Montessori is a newly established bilingual (English-French) Montessori school in the Niagara region providing a full French immersion environment. Licensed by the Ministry of Education in Ontario, we are passionate about delivering authentic Montessori education, focused on the holistic development of children aged 2.5 to 6 years old.
Position Summary
The Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) supports the implementation of a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating early childhood Montessori education environment. Working collaboratively with teachers, the ECA promotes children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, ensuring their safety, well-being, and active engagement in learning activities.
This contract position runs from September to June, with optional Summer Camps in August. Attendance at pre-planned school events and meetings during occasional weekends and evenings is required.
This role provides an opportunity to join a passionate team in shaping the minds of young children within a caring, bilingual Montessori environment.

Responsibilities

Childcare and Learning Support
• Assist in the planning and delivery of age-appropriate activities aligned with the program curriculum, promoting holistic child development.
• Support children in daily routines, including mealtime, rest periods, and transitions.
• Encourage children’s independence and self-help skills in activities such as dressing, toileting, and cleaning up.
Health, Safety, and Well-Being
• Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety in the classroom, playground, and during excursions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
• Implement health and hygiene practices, including handwashing, diaper changing, and sanitizing toys and equipment.
• Recognize and respond to signs of illness, injury, or distress, providing first aid and reporting concerns to supervisors.
Collaboration and Communication
• Work closely with teachers to adapt activities based on children’s needs and interests.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues, fostering a sense of community.
• Attend team meetings, professional development sessions, and parent events as required.
Program Support
• Set up and tidy classrooms, outdoor spaces, and activity areas.
• Assist in preparing teaching materials, resources, and displays.
• Participate in the cleaning of teaching equipment and material.

Qualifications

• Experience in a childcare or early learning setting (preferred).
• Familiarity with Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or other child-centered approaches (an asset).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with children, parents, and team members effectively.
• Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently when required.
• Patience, compassion, and a genuine interest in working with young children.
• Organizational skills to manage daily routines and multitask efficiently.

Work Hours

Hours: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday
• School Year: September to June (as per school calendar)
• July: Off
• August: Summer Camps
