Play a key role in supporting the team that shapes Ontario's transportation infrastructure.
As an Administrative Assistant with the Ministry of Transportation's Standards and Contracts Branch, you'll provide essential administrative services in a dynamic, technical environment that impacts thousands of bridges and structures across the province.
About us:
The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is committed to maintaining a safe and efficient transportation network across Ontario. The Standards and Contracts Branch develops and maintains the policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards that govern the design, construction, and rehabilitation of transportation structures, including bridges and large culverts.
With an inventory of approximately 2,800 bridges and numerous other structures, the Branch ensures consistency, quality, and innovation in structural engineering.The Structures Office consists of three specialized groups:
1. Bridge Design and Standards – Establishes design criteria and updates standards.
2. Bridge Management and Rehabilitation – Oversees asset management and structural rehabilitation strategies.
3. Foundation Engineering – Provides geotechnical expertise for safe and stable foundations.
Together, these groups totaling approximately 60 team members, support the integrity and sustainability of Ontario's transportation infrastructure.

In this role, you will:
• provide administrative support services in a technical engineering environment
• provide word processing services and compose routine correspondence
• prepare reports and presentations
• greet visitors and respond to inquiries
• maintain information within electronic and hard copy filing systems
• work effectively within an administrative support team
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
Administrative Knowledge and Skills
You can:
• apply knowledge of administrative practices.
• greet visitors and answer, screen and redirect phone calls to appropriate staff or business unit.
• use arithmetic and knowledge of financial processes to calculate employee attendance.
• reconcile expenditures related to expense claims, purchasing card statements, purchase orders/invoices.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
You have:
• customer service skills to work effectively with other staff.
• the ability to compose routine letters from verbal or written instructions.
• the ability to assess confidentiality of information to avoid improper release or disclosure of information.
Organizational and Coordination Skills
You can:
• arrange and coordinate conferences, meetings, make appointments and travel accommodation arrangements.
• manage and prioritize own workload to meet urgent deadlines.
• identify and resolve discrepancies.
Computer and Documentation Skills
• You have knowledge of computer applications, such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Database software
• You can prepare and track correspondence, charts, tables, graphics, spreadsheets and presentation materials.

Base Salary
Salary: $26.92 - $31.31 Per hour* *Indicates the salary listed as per the OPSEU Collective Agreement.
